Hello I am seeking info on my great-grandmother, born around 1857, died in Maryland 1937, I think she immigrated with her brother to MD around 1890's and than he left for Cali, my grandfather was Edward Benjamin Greenwaldt born around 1898 in MD. He had a brother named Charles Roman, sister Helen, maybe two girls died? Johanna may have came here as Mazer and married Greenwaldt/Zalgiris, not sure on this at all either. I suspect the name was changed from Grunwald to Greenwaldt. She died as Johanna Miller, must have been divorced or husband had died. Also another named mentioned in the family is Schmidt. I'm just at the beginning of all this research.
Have always been told we were German descent but am coming across confusing information on documents now , they may have lived in lithuania? They spoke German, Russian Lithunian and yiddish , so I don't know exactly what I am ? german, russian , lithuanian or jewish? no matter it's all good but I would sure like to know ?
Recap of names: Greenwaldt, Grunwald, Zalegiris / Zalgiris, Schmidt, Miller, and Mazer.
